TribeTrak ("we," "us," or "our") operates the TribeTrak mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the App.

1. Information We Collect

Information You Provide

  • Account information: Name, email address, phone number, profile photo, display name, home country, and bio when you create an account.
  • User-generated content: Map spots (POIs), tips, notes, votes, and flags you submit to the community.
  • Social connections: Tribe connections you make with other users.
  • Travel signals: Flare data indicating your intended travel destinations and dates.
  • Invite codes: Codes used to join the community.

Information Collected Automatically

  • Location data: With your permission, we collect your device's location to show nearby community spots on the map and provide location-relevant content. You can disable location services at any time through your device settings.
  • Device information: Device type, operating system version, and unique device identifiers for app functionality and troubleshooting.
  • Usage data: How you interact with the App, including screens viewed and features used, to improve the experience.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the App
  • Display community-contributed map spots, tips, and arrival guides
  • Enable social features including tribe connections and travel flares
  • Personalize your experience based on your location and cohort
  • Communicate with you about your account and app updates
  • Monitor and analyze usage trends to improve the App
  • Detect, prevent, and address technical issues or abuse

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information in the following circumstances:

  • With the community: Content you post (spots, tips, flares) is visible to other TribeTrak users in your community or cohort. Your display name and profile photo are visible to other users.
  • With program partners: If you join a program community (e.g., Boundless Life), your membership status and program-relevant activity may be shared with that program's administrators.
  • Service providers: We use third-party services including Supabase (database and authentication), Mapbox (maps), and Expo (app delivery) that process data on our behalf.
  • Legal requirements: If required by law, regulation, or legal process.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on servers operated by Supabase and protected by industry-standard encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest. We implement Row Level Security policies to ensure users can only access data they are authorized to see. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure.

5. Your Rights and Choices

  • Access and update: You can view and edit your profile information directly in the App.
  • Delete your account: You can request deletion of your account and associated data through the App or by visiting tribetrak.com/delete-account.
  • Location permissions: You can enable or disable location services through your device settings at any time.
  • Withdraw consent: You may stop using the App at any time and request deletion of your data.

6. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with the App's services. When you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

Community contributions (spots, tips) that have been enshrined by community vote may be retained in anonymized form to benefit future users.

7. Children's Privacy

TribeTrak is designed for use by parents and adults in worldschooling and traveling families. The App is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

8. International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence. By using the App, you consent to the transfer of your information to countries that may have different data protection laws than your jurisdiction.
